JUNE NEWS
Summer is here and for us that means slower days and plenty of sunshine! We recommend children bring a sunhat and that sunscreen be applied prior to arrival at school. Children remaining for extended care (3:30-4:45pm) may bring sunscreen and we will re-apply. Please ask for a sunscreen permission form and ensure the bottle is clearly labeled. We were excited to have several new families joining the farm this week and look forward to the campers joining us next week. We hope to see everyone at the Potluck this coming Saturday, details below!
SUMMER HOURS
Just a reminder that our summer hours of 8:00am-4:45pm take effect beginning next Monday, June 10th. This change only effects our children in extended care as regular program hours will remain 8:30am-3:30pm.
PESTS
Unfortunately this nice warm weather encourages many a pest and the most annoying of all, chiggers, are prevalent. For those unfamiliar the bites are red and raised similar to mosquito bites but are commonly in the folds of the skin such as groin, armpits, ankles or the backs of knees. The bites can be quite itchy and take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to clear completely. Contrary to popular belief, chiggers do not actually burrow into the skin and so the popular remedy of applying clear nail polish will not provide relief. The best remedy is any anti-itch cream or gel that contains aloe, calendula or even vegetable oil with a few drops of lavender essential oil is said to provide relief from itching.
CLOSURES & EVENTS
GRADUATE RECOGNITION & POTLUCK, Saturday, June 8th, 6-8pm
You are invited to join us as we celebrate the beginning of Summer and recognize our children graduating from our Treehouse and Kinder/Grades programs in a bridging ceremony. The sign-up sheet is on the table each morning so if you haven’t signed up already feel free to bring a favorite family dish to share. The school will be cooking a mess of chicken legs, providing sun tea or water as well as plates and utensils.
