Golden the sheaves,

Rosy the apples,

Mist on the hillside,

Clouds grey and white,

Autumn, good morning!

Summer, good night!

We welcome the cooler temperatures and mild afternoons of the past week! November is the beginning of what can be a busy couple of months with impending holidays, celebrations and travel for some families. Take time and enjoy the simplicity of the season with your family.

The Treehouse students will enjoy the story of The Contest between the Sun and the Wind and focus on the Wind we are already enjoying our favorite windy day activity, kite-flying!  Ms. Janie and Mr. Robert have been working with the children on completing their lanterns and are looking forward to the children using them next week.  We offer wet on wet watercolor painting on Monday/Thursday and Handwork, Bread Baking, Beeswax Modeling or Drawing on Tuesday/Wednesday.

CLOSURES/EVENTS

FALL POTLUCK/LANTERN WALK
Friday, November 9th 5:30-8:30pm
Due to our prior cancellation of the Stone Soup Supper we have combined a potluck with our Lantern Walk which means we will begin at 5:30pm and NOT 6:30pm so that we have plenty of time to enjoy eating prior to our hike.  The children will give a brief performance with teachers at 5:45pm followed by the enjoyment of our potluck soups and such. After everyone has enjoyed eating children should check into the back play yard gate where they will walk through the house to have their lanterns lit. Parents should greet their child as they exit the front door of the school.  Families, staff and children then hike from the front play yard to the large tree in our back pasture field. We strongly suggest everyone wear long pants and shoes appropriate for the tall grass and bumpy terrain.  Strollers will not move easily so please plan accordingly to wear/carry small children. The original potluck sign up sheet will be available for updating so please let us know if you need to update or cancel your prior commitment. We will again have plenty of fresh bread provided by the school.

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY CLOSURE
Wednesday, November 21st- Friday, November 23rd

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE
We have had a higher incidence of children either arriving early or departing late. We just wanted to remind our families that scheduling of staff is based on the number of children enrolled in both our extended care and regular day programs. In order to provide the best care and supervision of your child we ask that if you are enrolled in the “regular” aka “MDO” program children should arrive between 8:30-8:45am and depart between 3:15-3:30pm. Any arrival prior to 8:25am or departure after 3:35pm will result in additional fees as outlined in the family handbook. We greatly appreciate your cooperation!

PARENT CONFERENCES
Parent-Teacher Conferences begin in December and the sign-up sheet will be available when school resumes after the Thanksgiving holiday.  These conferences are an opportunity for us to touch base with you regarding our observations of your child’s development.  We set aside 20 mins. for each conference and ask that if you feel you require additional time to please let us know via email and we will schedule time accordingly.  As always if you have an issue or concern please bring it to us at anytime and don’t feel you need to wait until “conference” time as we are happy to schedule either a phone or in-person conference to discuss your child.

PARENT SOCIETY MEETING
Thank you to everyone that participated in our October Parent Society Meeting.  The school announced that there are a few additional faces here on the farm that your child may mention. Ms. Courtney is a parent and currently substitutes for us as she has prior experience working with children.  Ms. Danika and Ms. Robyn are interns currently enrolled in the Texas State University Teaching Certificate Program. They join Treehouse one-day a week from 9am to Noon in order to observe our program and assist children under the direct supervision of Ms. Janie and Mr. Robert. The internship is for 10 weeks and will conclude right before the winter holidays.  We also had a discussion around the topic of “Health and Homeopathy”.
Parent(s) Orieta and Brian Ender suggested a homemade syrup to ease colds/sore throats and have included their favorite recipe to share with Good Earth Families. If you weren’t able to join us and would like a handout please email us or ask Andrea in the morning.  We are looking for feedback on future topics at Parent Society Meetings and welcome your suggestions for either activities or themes for discussion.

As always please feel free to contact us with any questions!

We are looking forward to lots of fall fun on the farm,
Leslie, Janie, Andrea, Melissa, Barbra and Robert
