Dear Good Earth Community,

It has become necessary to “clean up” our drop-off and pick-up procedures and greatly reduce parent traffic through our school. This should expedite the drop-off/pick-up process and improve staff supervision of children during two incredibly busy and risky times in our day.

In order to ensure the safety and adequate supervision of each child at school, we have made the decision to immediately institute the following:

Arrival
An opening staff person shall receive children at the front door between 8 and 8:15am. Opening staff will supervise children at front table until 8:30. At 8:20am the front door shall be locked and the sign directing parents to play yard shall be hung up.

One staff person shall inspect play yard for trash, debris, etc. at 8:15am and move clipboards and water bottle boxes outdoors. At 8:25 said staff member shall receive children. Staff member should then verbally notify Admin on duty when 9 or more children have been received and at that time a second staff member shall enter play yard and supervise the area towards logs and swings. During this time the first staff member shall continue to receive children at the play yard gate.

Staff will receive children on the play yard at the gate. Parents will cease entering the school or school yard to drop off bags, etc. Staff will offer to take bags, notes, items, etc. Staff will ensure they have tape and/or a permanent marker for parents to label items if necessary. All items shall remain on table until staff can retrieve them. Pertinent information for the day should be communicated via the “Notes” section of the rosters. The back door to the school may be locked at this time so all items collected shall be placed on the outdoor table until all staff move to the play yard.

Departure
Similarly, children will be dismissed to parents from either the play yard gate or via the front door. Any items a family wishes to retrieve from a child’s hook or in a cubby will be gathered by a teacher.

Doors
You may hear chimes as we have installed an apparatus on each door of our school that signals when a door has been open. This is a tool to assist staff in monitoring our doors…mostly to make sure children are not leaving the school building proper without a staff member.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we put new procedures into place or modify routines as the Director deems necessary. Please feel free to approach us with any questions!

Best,
Leslie, Janie and Andrea
