Many thanks to the twenty plus families that came out with happy hearts to help at our workday this past Saturday! Everything looks great, and more was accomplished than we imagined! The children have loved discovering all of the changes that occurred in just one weekend! Bring on the Pygmy goats, chickens, and seeds! We're ready!
Just a reminder that we will conduct the parent workday tomorrow, Saturday, January 14, from 10 AM-2 PM. Food and drinks (water, coffee, tea) will be provided as well as childcare.
We have numerous small projects both indoors and outdoors. Some of our bigger projects include: trim painting in the Saplings classroom, reworking the old boot rack into a chicken coop/tractor, dismantling the old greenhouse, and driving metal fencing posts then mounting fence panels to them.
It may be helpful to bring work gloves, sledge hammers, hammers, saws, and pliers if you are working outside.
We are finally getting back into our routine here on the farm and have a couple of short announcements and important dates to note! First, we have changed banks and they have a strict policy requiring all checks be made payable to The Good Earth Day School, abbreviations or other names will not be accepted so please make note when making any payments via check.
The children are studying Sheep/Wool and Animals in Winter this month! Treehouse enjoyed building a beaver lodge and Saplings explored the wool felted balls and painted sheep this week among all the other daily rituals.
Just a reminder that parent-teacher conferences begin tomorrow. Conferences are 20 minutes. If you have any special concerns and would like to schedule a longer conference please let us know so that we may alot more time.
The conference sign-up sheet has been on a clipboard near rosters at drop-off and pick-up times so if you haven't already done so please sign-up.
Our first annual Lantern Walk is this Friday, November 11, 2011, at 6:30 PM. We hope you make time to join us for this meaningful event. While our Fall and Spring festivals are open to the greater community, this and other events are intended for school families (extended family OK). We will gather, share a story, and light the lanterns the children have been working on. We will go for a walk as a school community as the children and teachers lead the community in a few special songs. At the end of the walk, we will return to school, enjoy a special snack, extinguish our lanterns,...
November is upon us! It is at this point in the year we recognize families becoming very busy with travel and the holidays so we definitely try to slow things down a bit here on the farm and really enjoy our time.
We are currently transitioning our unit of study from Pumpkins to Illumination which will conclude with our Lantern Walk on Friday, November 11th from 6:30-8pm. Families are invited to bring a picnic dinner and then participate with their child. The children are already working on their lanterns and learning a new verse to sing for the occasion.
The Fall Festival held Saturday was lots of fun, with plenty of time for the kids to play with animals, win prizes, and hear stories told by Lady Autumn! A big "thank you" to all of our parent volunteers and staff for their work!
We're looking forward to everyone coming out for a good time at the Fall Festival tomorrow from 10 AM-1 PM! A reminder to park at Wiley Middle School across the street. Admission is $7 and all-inclusive. Refreshments will be available at Sassy Pea Market.
We are still looking for a few volunteers. Email the school if you can help out, but have not yet signed up. Anyone like to face paint??? Let Andrea know!
Please spread the word on Facebook, and become a fan of the school if you're not already!
