It's a big week in the universe! Tuesday night we welcome a new moon, and Wednesday at 7:09 PM(EDT) marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere--the longest day of the year. The sun will reach its farthest point north of the equator. We hope that you are settling into this season with lots of time planned to connect as a family!

The farm is so green, and the wildflowers in the back field are unbelievable! On Thursday we had a little fun in the rain, even pretending we were little deer or bunnies hiding in the "thatch" where the water drops had a hard time reaching us! Thursday afternoon and Friday we had fun in the mud, sometimes unintentionally when unexpected puddles found the children.
Whew! Last week we participated in the screen free challenge. Even if you didn't, maybe you thought about how hard it would be to give up smartphones, Facebook, the buzz of the television, surfing the web, and Pinterest for a week. (And, it was!) Screens truly can take us away from relaxation, connecting with one another, and important tasks that we can "never find time to get to". What to do? Conscious, moderate use with attention to quality seems to be the key in today's high tech world. And, the less the better for children. None at all is ideal. Let us continue thinking about the impact...
