We had many requests for a follow-up to last night’s first Parent Society meeting. Thanks for your interest! Each meeting will begin with our verse to set the intention, a reading of the mission statement, followed by any Society business. There will be a period for questions followed by a parent education opportunity or demonstration. The meetings will conclude with a social period with refreshments. All school parents are members of the Parent Society.

Our on-going opening verse: I will listen with an open mind, an open heart, and a forgiving spirit. This is a community built on trust that works for the good of our children.

Mission Statement: The purpose of The Good Earth Day School Parent Society is to provide a space in the life of the school for parental involvement, parent education, and a time for parents and teachers to commune.

Last night:

Discussion of current volunteer opportunities including: 1-2 gardening helpers once per week. 1-2 Monday nap aides 1-2 times per month to allow for staff meetings and staff development. Occasional classroom craft assistants, 2 room parents each class: Saplings and Treehouse, parents to play instruments for the children.

All parents are welcome to propose ideas for volunteer projects and the school will routinely post volunteer opportunities. In considering ways one might wish to volunteer, some general categories are: construction/woodworking, arts/crafts, handwork/sewing, instruments/singing, movement/yoga, guest chef. Andrea is our volunteer coordinator and contact.

A password-protected online school directory is coming soon! Parents discussed options for how much information should be included in the directory, and how to “opt-out”.

We will begin posting a synopsis of our lesson plans on the blog per parents’ recommendations.

It was announced that GEDS will offer a kinder/1st grade class next year. Additionally, we will be working to consider if there is enough interest to offer an upper elementary class as well. Potentially, GEDS will provide space for upper elementary homeschool students to connect in Waldorf enrichment meet-ups. More details 2/21/12 at 7 PM at GEDS. Janie demonstrated four nature trays and gave ideas about how to incorporate them into your home and meal ritual.

Thanks to the parents who came out last night, and for those who couldn’t make it this time, we are excited to include you in the next meeting!
