 In Our Daily Rhythm

We’ve enjoyed having summer campers around the farm for two weeks, with one week left in our June session!  They’ve been busy cooking, tending the gardens, planting a new garden, taking care of the chickens, finger knitting, and even mixed and poured concrete to continue work on our outdoor oven.  They’ve had music and German classes with Miss Christiane when they aren’t busy around the farm with Miss Barbra.  What a great group of kids!

We’re harvesting a couple of tomatoes a day, and the sunflowers are in full bloom.  Milkweed is prolific in the petting farm field, and attracts monarch butterflies.  Treehouse friends have enjoyed picking some of the milkweed pods and cracking them open for examination.  Inside, each seed is attached to some “fluff”, which when released, floats away in the wind.  Sensory activities have included pouring/scooping colored water, beading patterns on a pipe cleaner, and using tongs to move sun/moon puff balls, books about the sun and sunflowers, talk about the arrival of summer today, and circle games including “Sally Go Round the Sun” and “King/Queen Sun”.

The Saplings have several new students who are adjusting quite well!  They have been busy with water play, too, as well as peeling hard boiled eggs, blocks and giant beads, and lots of outdoor adventure.

Happy Summer 2013!
