We always have organic Apples on the menu here at the farm! One thing we have learned is that there is more than one way to slice an apple.

When we use the rotating apple cutter (as seen above) to make “Apple Ribbons” everyone delights in the peel.

When we slice against the core we look for the magic “Apple Stars” or as the Saplings noticed the full round slice resembles the moon.

Since Fall is officially here we have been enjoying Applesauce served warm from the crockpot. The beauty of the seasonal rotating menu is that we have time to perfect the recipes. Week one the children were a bit thrown by the warmth and Week two “someone” may have added a bit too much cinnamon to the Treehouse crock but the Third time will be the charm and it couldn’t be easier to prepare. We have been serving it alongside Almond Butter Sandwiches but I think it would be tasty mixed into an oatmeal or porridge for breakfast or even served at dinner with pork chops and sweet potato hash. Try it out and let us know how your family enjoys the warm fall favorite!

    Crockpot Applesauce

8-10 Organic Apples (cored and sliced)
Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 to 1/2c Water
1 tsp cinnamon

Wash Apples, then core and slice. We did not peel the apples but it is purely preference. Add all ingredients to the crockpot and cook on low for 4-6hrs. We left ours on the chunky side but a couple pulses with an immersion blender creates a smooth consistency. We also didnt add any additional sweeteners but brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave, etc. could be used to sweeten.

Tip of the Week: If you would like to purchase a rotating apple cutter for your own home to make “Apple Ribbons” I spied them on sale at Target this week!
