The Farm School Philosophy

Our days on the Farm are designed to create a balance between free, creative play and more structured activities. Nature inspires our curriculum to focuses on themes that mimic the changing of seasons. Our curriculum will feature ample experiences in the following areas of development, all of which will prepare each child for public, private kindergarten, or homeschooling.

We work with the young child first by creating a warm, beautiful and loving home-like environment, which is protective and secure and where things happen in a predictable, regular manner.

We engage in domestic, practical and artistic activities that the children can readily imitate (for example: baking, painting, gardening and handicrafts), adapting the work to the changing seasons.

We see to nurture the children’s power of imagination by encouraging free play. This free or fantasy play helps them to experience many aspects of life more deeply. Toys are generally open-ended and made of natural materials. None of our play things make noise or require batteries!

Our Mission

The mission of The Good Earth Farm School is to provide a high-quality, nature-based education to children in the first phase of childhood (18 months to 6 years) in a home-like setting. Activities now absent from most urban children’s lives will be a key part of the curriculum, including: cooking, gardening, outdoor exploration, sewing, woodworking, caring for animals, and housekeeping. Woven into these experiences will be lessons that will well-prepare children to enter public or private school, or homeschooling arrangements. The Good Earth Farm School attempts to educate the whole child, touching the child’s heart and will besides his/her intellect.

Our Story

The Good Earth Farm School was founded to provide a way for children to experience nature and to participate in school “family” life. The school is designed to offer a predictable rhythm to the young children it serves. The farm school occupies just under two acres of land with two buildings, animal pens, play yards, and a vegetable garden. In a world of “big box” schools and stores, we offer a personalized preschool experience for your child. With just one visit, we think you will have found a peaceful, engaging, and creative place for your child to spend his or her days! We feel it is paramount that early childhood education must address the whole child and support development–not just attempt to stuff him or her full of academic knowledge at a young age.

Our Setting

We are fortunate to spend our days on almost two acres under unbelievably huge Texas oak and pecan trees.  We have a beautiful school garden and three large play yards, as well as a Community Yard exclusively where families segue in and out of school, visiting with one another.

Our play yards have a few pieces of built-in play equipment and sand boxes, but we treasure most our wide open spaces where children can move freely and engineer their own play with loose parts such as rocks, boards, card board boxes, and nature items.

We care for a variety of small farm animals located in pens on each play yard.  Children may bring scraps from home to share with the animals.  We have a Little Library in the Community Yard where students may trade books.

There are two buildings on our campus, a large two story main building and a second one-story building.  We have multiple outdoor sinks for hand washing and many picnic tables for meal service as well as play and work.

All of our classrooms are thoughtfully decorated and are full of beautiful open-end materials that are unique to our educational philosophy.  Soft colors and lighting, natural play materials, and props to further monthly themes can be found in each classroom.

Why Farm School is Better

Farm Setting

Kids tend and care for a variety of animals on the farm.

Fresh Food

Farm School kids garden throughout the year, bake homemade bread from scratch, harvest their veggies and prep it for meal time.

Outside Play

Everyday Children play outside – run, skip, jump, climb and even splash in puddles! Kids, Parents & Teachers approve of getting outside.

Amazing Teachers

Farm School teachers are bar none, the love and care provided by our staff along with our small teacher to student ratio ensures the security and growth of our children with lots of individual attention.

One Owner

Farm School is lovingly owned by a passionate mom of two children who believes children should be nurtured and allowed to play outside everyday.

  • All too often teachers go far too long without hearing how much they are appreciated. Good Earth is family to us – every staff member fills our lives with joy and so we wanted to send you some love and cookies to show how much we care. . . . Thank you for taking such amazing care of our girls and allowing them to flourish in your care.

    Farm School Parent
  • We are loving how friendly, kind and gentle the teachers have been with our son. He comes home with many fun stories to tell about the adventures he has had in his Treehouse class. We enjoy seeing the children playing outside in the photos you post to both Instagram and Facebook. We really cherish the small moments that you share with us because we love seeing what he has participated in throughout the day.
