In Our Daily Rhythm, Tips & Treasures & Thoughts

It’s a big week in the universe! Tuesday night we welcome a new moon, and Wednesday at 7:09 PM(EDT) marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere–the longest day of the year. The sun will reach its farthest point north of the equator. We hope that you are settling into this season with lots of time planned to connect as a family!

Here are a couple of fun summer ideas:

*As we’ve shared in Parent Society Meetings this year, the children adore having a special tray and a candle on the dinner table. Why not grab a little yellow and orange felt and make a summer tealight candle? You”ll find complete instructions here..
.Try to freshen your table monthly or seasonally.

*I took my girls to Mount Bonnell to watch the sunset Saturday night. (We enjoyed some ice cream, too!) Check the time, but on the night we went, the sun set at 8:35 PM. They were surprised, even at ages 8 and 12, that it didn’t get pitch black the minute the sun set over the hills. Why not be on top of Mount Bonnell on the longest night of the year, June 20?

*I recently learned that each month, on the night of the full moon, people gather at Barton Springs Pool and howl at the moon when the sun goes down. Don’t tell my kids, but I’m going to try to get us there one night this summer. Full moon dates are: July 3, August 2, and August 31. If you happen to have older children or night owls, the pool is free from 9-10PM. Barton Springs too far? Why not howl at your neighborhood pool or a splash pad? Your backyard? Your kids will love it!

Happy (almost) summer!
