 In Our Daily Rhythm

We spent last week hearing the tale of “Stone Soup”.The children enjoyed various versions of the tale in book form. They helped stamp seasonal table runners and moved tables (wire spools) into place on the front yard.

On Thursday and Friday, many families brought veggies to school to contribute to our soup pots. The kids had fun identifying the veggies and discussing whether they grow above ground, below ground, etc. Next, the peeling and chopping began. The children also mixed bread dough and shaped loaves. Anyone at the supper knows we could have shared a couple more pots of soup and several more loaves of crusty bread! This has been noted for next year!

The supper began with a welcome from Andrea and a re-enactment of the tale starring Miss Melissa as the traveller, and the children as villagers contributing veggies to the pot! The children said our “Oaka Poka” blessing and the meal began. We enjoyed beef vegetable soup, vegetarian chili, southwest corn chowder, salad, and hot bread.

Lots of conversation and play made the night a very special one in the life of our school. Thank you to all, including those families that helped set up and clean up!

Remember, the secret to stone soup (and to community) is sharing!
