Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat! (And your house may be bursting soon, too!)

Take some time this weekend to consider clearing out clothes and toys before new things make their way into your home next week! Your child can grow to be part of this process on a monthly, quarterly, or seasonal basis.

In deciding what should go, consider:

•How much can your child “manage” (clean up) on his own?
•Are there toys that give rise to undesirable play?
•Do you notice anything that is broken or in need of repair?
•Does your child have too many of the same type of toy? (i.e. 6 baby dolls or 15 Matchbox trucks)
•Is your child’s play area visually relaxing or over-stimulating? Consider the impact of colors, plastic vs. natural materials, a balance of soft and hard toys.

Three Sisters Toys has a great guide to setting up a play space, and is kin to what we do in our classrooms.

Happy clearing!
